Sam’s Love for the Cubs started when he was 7. We have such a distinct memory of our little red headed, freckle faced Sammy, with his sloppy “S” speech impediment, saying,” I love the Cubsth and Sthammy Sthostha (Sammy Sosa)”. 

Sammy’s first Cubs game was on July 16th , 2000 as an early 7th birthday gift. The Cubs played the Royals in Kansas City. Walking into the game Sam was telling us how Sammy Sosa was going to hit two home runs and that the Cubs were going to win. The amazing thing is, he was correct! This early experience clinched his love and unrelenting hope and confidence in his Cubbies. This little seven-year-old’s passion and enthusiasm is something that would characterize him for his entire life.

Sam’s first game at Wrigley was on August 12, 2004, several months after his brother, RJ’s, sudden death. This was our first vacation as a family of four instead of five. Later in his life, Sam would refer to Wrigley as “The Cathedral”. Our time there was such a heightened experience and a time of healing. Over the next 14 years we made numerous trips to watch the Cubs. Chicago was always at the top of Sam’s list of places to go. Cubs winning the World Series in 2016 was truly one of the happiest moments of Sam’s life. His exuberance was unprecedented, and it is a memory we hold close to our hearts.

In 2011, as soon as Sam turned 18 and was able to, he put himself on the waiting list for Cubs season tickets. In early September 2021, over three years since Sam’s death, we received a postcard from the Chicago Cubs. It was addressed to Samuel Peck, but came to our current address, an address that didn’t even exist during Sam’s lifetime because we built this home after his passing. It was also the second address change since we lived with Sam, yet inexplicably this postcard found its way to us. It explained that they had been trying to reach him because there was a high likelihood that he would be eligible to purchase Cubs season tickets.

As we began to share the story of the postcard with our friends and family, it was met with much of the same reaction – “You guys have to do this! This is about more than baseball! This is about mission and sharing the story!” 
The next morning after Mass, we were explaining the story to our friend, Anita, whose son was Sam’s classmate since kindergarten. What she said gave us an insight into what was starting to happen. “We live in a dark world and your family has brought many of us hope. I believe this is Sammy coming down and giving us a hug. I’m not a big baseball fan myself but would gift this to someone”. 

And so, the decision was made to purchase season tickets for the Chicago Cubs with the intention of using this as a fundraiser for inner-city youth.

Promise Bound has two tickets in Section 227 Row 20 (Seats 21 & 22) for various home games throughout the season.  Additional tickets for ALL 81 Home Games may be acquired through Promise Bound (based on ticket availability).
